Enlarged 14 times, this model shows a medium-sized muscular artery with two adjacent veins from the forearm, together with the surrounding fat tissue and muscle. It illustrates the anatomical relationship between artery and vein and the basic workings of the venous valves (the 'valve function' and the 'muscle pump'). The left vein and the central artery are fenestrated in the upper anterior segment to reveal the layers of the vessel wall in cross section, longitudinal section and top view, while the right vein is opened along the anterior segment to show the orifice of a feeder vein and two venous valves. The relief on the reverse depicts two veins to illustrate how the venous valves function, and the model is supplied on a base.
