Apertures and Diffraction Gratings
Electron Diffraction Tube, Type D
This tube demonstrates the wave nature of the electron and allows the de Broglie wavelength of the electron to be measured. Together with the photoelectric effect, electron diffraction illustrates one of the most revolutionary results of quantum mechanics: the duality between particles and waves. The electron beam is passed through a polycrystalline graphite foil that diffracts the wave packets, and from the known lattice constants of graphite the de Broglie wavelength — and its variation with energy — can be determined. The tube is used in holder 508060 (available separately); anode voltage up to 5 kV, filament voltage max. 7.5 V.
