Maltese Cross Tube D
This highly evacuated tube has an electron gun and fluorescent screen with a suspended aluminium Maltese cross. It demonstrates straight-line propagation of cathode rays by casting a cross shadow on the screen, as well as electrostatic charging, magnetic beam deflection and electron optics. A 3 mm hole in the cross helps show the orientation of the shadow in a magnetic field.
