Rotating Globe, Satellite View, 11 cm

A small 11 cm globe that shows the Earth as it appears from space — a "satellite view" design, with clouds drawn over some land areas including northern Europe. It stands in the supplied base and, unusually, rotates by itself whenever it is exposed to light: an outer clear shell surrounds the coloured globe, which floats in a liquid and houses highly sensitive solar cells that drive its motor, so very little light is needed to set it turning. In geography it lets pupils observe the Earth's continents and rotation and supports work on day length, light, solar energy and the planet's motion in space, whether as a supplement to lessons on the solar system and seasons or as an eye-catching, mains-free display in museums and science centres.
