Physics equipment
Rheostat, 0–1000 Ω, 0.5 A
A continuously adjustable slide resistor (rheostat) housed in a robust case with safety sockets, its resistance element wound from oxidised constantan wire on a ceramic tube. It works as both a variable resistor and a voltage divider and can be briefly overloaded by up to 100%. The resistance ranges from 0 to 1000 Ω, with a maximum current of 0.5 A and a power rating of 250 W. In the physics classroom it is used for Ohm's-law experiments, voltage division, current control and adjusting measurement set-ups, letting pupils explore the relationship between voltage, current and resistance and build their own circuits.
